Life in the Garden

Image
Many things can be seen and experience while visiting the garden....thanks to Dale Willet's video, this scene is something not seen by many...enjoy There are birds and chipmunks starting coming around and with them being fed it can only increase. This appears to be a male Blue Indigo Bunting which is really not too common to this area. I really wish I had my larger camera when it chose to visit...hopefully it may return.  The flowers are growing very well and blooms are starting to appear. They are beautiful and very colourful thanks to the hard work of many people. Speaking of hard work, this is about as hard as it gets...thanks Don and Ed but please take it easy.... 😅 Doreen has planted a unique style of gardening, this is her second year using this method. She keeps records of what grows and what does not resulting in changes this year. If you see her there, stop and chat with her about it....  ...

Spring's Late Arrival

Regardless of the time of its arrival, the work has begun and preparation of the garden boxes is being completed Wow..this is really getting into your work! 😆 Some necessary discussions! We had some surprise visitors as well!

Spring is arriving.......slowly

Image
Simply click on the white triangle on the left to view this video. Spring is arriving at the gardens this year albeit slowly. Something different this year is a short video to show how everything is drying and yes, even the birds have returned. The chipmunks are around as well but they were moving too quickly to capture for my first time. One of the first nice days, this spring, saw several people enjoying the sunshine....you will notice, also, that there is no snow left in the bush around the gardens. No snow in sight anywhere. Things are drying well Dale Brown caused some interest when he announced that he was digging up parsnips that had been in the garden all winter. As you can see they were of a good size and he said that they would used for his meals....when you see him, be sure to ask how they tasted! Is alive and well!!!

Fall is Approaching....

Image
"Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when  everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale."     - Lauren Destefano Fall is definitely in the air and with it sadly, the end of summer. We have had a wonderful summer this year with many warm and hot days. Perfect growing weather and our garden did show the results because of it.  With forty plus boxes/beds to grow things, we had an unimaginable amount of fresh vegetables. Over 30 plus people took advantage of our community gardens and grew many things.  The committee responsible for the community garden did a great job. They looked after and took care of everything and everyone...great job and thank you for all you did! Some of the many things grown include beans, both green and yellow, many varieties of leaf lettuce, kale, potatoes, beets, many varieties and colours of tomatoes, cucumber, zucchini, cauliflower, carrots, sq...
